The Austin Fire Department held their Annual Bass Fishing Tournament on Lake Travis April 13, 2010. The weather was perfect for the 10 teams that competed for the bragging rights to win first place or catch a big largemouth bass. The teams were made up of firefighters, retirees, and police officers. The bass were in pre-spawn and post-spawn patterns, and were tougher to catch this year than in previous years. The 1st place winners were Marcus Faske and Ken Krueger (subbing for Carrie Stewart whose daughter broke her arm the night before the tourney) with a winning weight of 8.6 lbs. The 2nd place team was Mike Colosky and his son with a total weight of 5.7 lbs. The 3rd place team was a team of retired firefighters, Sandy Castillo and “Can Opener” Robertson. Richard Myers and Steve Nardecia won 4th place, and the 5th place winners were Mario Gonzales and Mr. Gibson. The big bass for the tournament was 2.6 lbs and was caught on a Texas Rigged Worm in Pumpkin color in 10 feet of water by Marcus Faske. Everyone had a great time on the water and everyone agreed to having another tournament in October. Make plans to attend this fall tournament and hope to see you out on the water. We would like to thank Local 975 for donating $100 towards the prize money that was awarded.
