Dalmatians and Firefighters Together!

To help the Long Center promote the run of "101 Dalmatians" (currently showing now through November 29) AFD had an engine and the crew from Station 6 present prior to today's matinee to educate folks about fire safety and share some trivia about why Dalmatians and firefighters have been associated together for so long.

Here's a little trivia to share around the Thanksgiving table tomorrow: The reason is because of the close bond Dalmatians would form with the horses that drew the old-time fire engines. It is not true that they were kept at firehouses because they were deaf and would therefore not be “spooked” by the alarm.

(If you'd like to attend a show, AFD has a special discount. Use code "CRUELLA" if you order online here save 25% off your tickets! Or, call (512) 474-LONG (5664).)

Safe Driving Article from IAFC

An interesting article from IAFC: On Scene came out earlier this week regarding safe driving policies. It references Chief Kerr's decision on this issue, so I thought you might like to read it.

Dillard's Discount

Firefighters will receive 20 percent off purchases at Dillard's on Wednesday, December 2 and Thursday, December 3. Once you've made your purchases, take your sales receipts to the customer service area and show your firefighter I.D. Dillard's will deduct the discount from your total purchases in the same form of payment you used. Unfortunately, civilian fire department employees are not included in this discount (but there's nothing preventing you from taking a uniform member with you when you go shoppping!).
